Multidisciplinary artist Ashley Soliman has always loved making things by hand and is devoted to the charms of human imperfection found in traditional handicrafts and the domestic arts. Referencing nature, American folk art, German Expressionism, and everyday objects, she explores color, form, and contrast on paper and fabric. The satisfaction of working manually and learning new skills constantly motivates Soliman to challenge herself. After college, she spent four years immersed in fine dining pastry and another four in costume design. These experiences still inform her thought process as she cultivates current work in gouache, ink, and printmaking.
Born and raised in Southern California, Soliman graduated from the School of Visual Arts in 2010 with a BFA in Fine Arts / Printmaking. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
